20

twenty feels the same
like each day before
my skin a little looser
but still too tight
dripping time down
into a stained mug
sipping bitter brown
and wishing I had
a juice box.

Today is my birthday, the end of my teenage years and the emergence into my 20s. These next 10 years should be interesting.

    1. Thank you, it’s a strange transition to go to not being a “teenager” anymore. Thank you for the birthday wishes and I hope for the same for you!!

  1. Very Happy Birthday wishes for you! The world soon swings wide open and you have the rest of your life to do whatever it was you dreamed you would like to do. πŸ™‚

  2. I myself am going to turn 20 this year, and I’m really curious as to how it feels when you’re 20. Of course, there won’t be any drastic changes, but I guess you won’t be able excuse “I’m just a teenager” when you do something stupid. Man, I’m going to miss that.

    1. Yeah, that’s something I missed too once I turned twenty. Can’t blame mistakes on being a teenager. Unfortunately, I spent my twentieth, twenty-first and twenty-second birthdays in state prison. I have finally come to grips with the fact that it’s part of my life’s story. Now that I am sober and reaching out to others who are still struggling, my past has gone from being a liability to being an asset. I have taken steps to return to college, finish my psychology degree, and become a state certified drug and alcohol counselor. Given how I acted as a teenager, I am confident I will be able to relate to teenagers who are finding themselves in trouble.

      1. That’s really amazing. It’s great that you were able to turn your life around and use your experiences to help other people. That’s such an incredible and important influence you can have.

      2. Ohh! That’s great actually, how you are accepting your past and using it to help others. πŸ™‚
I hope you finish your degree and become a state certified drug and alcohol counsellor. And I hope many trouble teens can get better through your help. πŸ™‚

  3. Wow nice poems you have here! I really like the bitter brown/stained mug contrast to the juice box. Will definitely be checking out your blog more πŸ™‚ I just recently turned 19 and there’s so many things that I wanna do in my youth so I never want to grow old. Here’s to hoping that teens will be young at heart haha
