Spring

Forsythia first, pinprick yellow blooms,
Then inky crocus and pastel tulips.

Daisy chains and floral crowns,
With woven leaves and knotted stems,
Twisted into shackles on wrists.

Nooses around necks never were scented sweeter
Than when winter hung from green branches.
